is an exciting, prayerful pro-life campaign that has mobilized over 500,000 Christians of over 14,000 congregations, led over 175,000 Christians to pray at abortion facilities, many for the first time, and produced amazing results. At least 5045 babies and women (that we know of) have been saved from abortion. 61 abortion workers have left their jobs (including Abby Johnson, the former Director of a Planned Parenthood clinic and author of unPlanned (her story). Twenty-one clinics have closed following 40 Days campaigns!
There are three components: prayer and fasting, constant vigil, and community outreach.
1. Prayer and Fasting: Participating individuals will pledge to pray and fast for greater respect for human life in Fort Bend County. Each person may choose exactly how they will do that. Daily devotionals and prayer requests are available by email from the national 40 Days for Life leadership. Fasting may mean abstaining from food, or from other pleasures, such as video games, computers and television.
2. Constant vigil: Each spring, we will hold a prayer vigil at Planned Parenthood at 3727 Greenbriar Dr., Stafford (Map), where chemical abortions are performed. (Chemical abortions are done with pills rather than surgery.) Individuals are asked to pray for one hour per week, at this location, for the period of the campaign. Our goal is to have constant prayer from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, from Ash Wednesday to the Saturday before Palm Sunday. All participants must agree to abide by a Statement of Peace.
2012: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, February 22 - March 31, 2012.
Prayers will also be done outside the Rosenberg Planned Parenthood at 4203 Ave H (in Chamber Plaza, next to Wendy's).
3. Community outreach: This component will involve delivery of a door hanger with pro-life information and referrals for help with an unexpected pregnancy. (See the design for the door hanger here.) While it would be ideal to speak to our neighbors, asking them to join us in prayer to end abortion, and identifying those who are pro-life, simple delivery of the pro-life information would be a positive step. The information on the hanger will increase awareness of abortion, present the truth that abortion hurts women, and give information on help available for those facing crisis pregnancies. Recipients of the hanger are also invited to sign up for the Christian Voices for Life weekly email.
